Barry Rudd's post about the clean up of the basin and the forthcoming W3 left me searching for inspiration as to what could do with the area to bring it back to it's former glory. The links below may be known to a lot of you however using the search function on the forum didn't bring anything up about the warehouse so I saw no harm in posting a new topic.
There are really nice photos of the inside of the building and also a rather startling picture with another storey attached. Hope this can spark some debate :-)

Expect a comment from barrwalk which won't exactly be praising the efforts of The Whaley Eleven on their handling of the Transhipment Warehouse saga and the £50,000 feasibility study.

Hmmmm, thanks Norm and HorwichEnder
Figured that this must have been discussed before. I can also see why people may still feel a little sore over it all.
That said I feel that it is still ripe for discussion and both links have some really interesting pictures of the interior which some people may not have seen before. I would not shy away from it....

Quite right Nev. I had not seen the photos before, but to be fair I have not searched hard. Everyone, I think, is of the same opinion on this forum that it is a shame that nothing is done and would be fantastic thing to be done up. When you look at the basin, and canals in general in this country, at what has been done since the 1970s the difference is great, the icing on the cake would be the warehouse. Oh well we live and hope.
I remember looking inside the warehouse when the doors were open, but to be honest I can't remember when that was. They are always shut when I am there now. So are they always shut now?

I'm sure everyone knows that Lathams had a garage on the A6 side of the warehouse but in the 60' for quite a few years Stan Crompton garaged at least 1 of his lorries in the other side and used it as a workshop/garage. He put a new wing on my Ford Anglia and sprayed it in there in 1964.

Hi everyone
My name is Simon Revill, I am studying for a Postgraduate Diploma in Historic Environment Conservation at the Ironbridge Institute, University of Birmingham. I am currently researching the transhipment warehouse and canal wharf in Whaley Bridge.
I am specifically interested in what the warehouse and the wharf means to you - the local community.
-- Any memories?
-- Did the warehouse and or wharf play any special part in your life or the life of the town and community?
-- It's role in WWII would be interesting?
-- Do you or did you live you live nearby?

I've read the posts regarding the recent history... funding bids, redevelopment etc. It appears the Whaley Water Weekend (W3) is a significant annual event...
