Hello
I have started this thread as to be the point where people can express thoughts and/or ideas about the Local History Website, rather than them being spread over the forum.
There is plenty of work to be done on the site, the threads about Powder Mills, Fernilee Reservoir and Furness Clough will keep me busy for months to come.
The number of photographs in the album has crashed through the hundred barrier, there is now one hundred and one!
So please use this one thread for communication about the site, or use e-mail, address on the site. Talking about e-mail can I say thank you to the members that have e-mailed me with their support and praise for the site.
I will use this thread to keep you informed of updates to the site as well.
Norm

Hi,
The edit by moderator above has not changed anything, I was trying to make the thread 'sticky', but failed !
Cheers

Good afternoon Well Known Norm.
Many thanks for placing the photos of the pubs on the Local History Website which were very kindly provided by Shallcross and R. S-S.
There are now nine of our local pubs on display and hopefully other forum members will have historical photographs of The Goyt, Navigation, Railway, Shepherds, Male Hen, Sycamore, Crossings, Jolly Sailor and Dog & Partridge.
Please keep updating the website when you have time. It is very much appreciated.

Hi
Just to say the album has been updated. More places, trains and pubs. Plenty pubs now.

Hi
Parabuild, your posts on Furness Clough have been added to the website. Your thoughts on the section will be appreciated.

I think that is very good Norm.
One very small comment – looking at the source code I noticed that your table width is at 100% I would try 95% or 90% and of course the table centred,
Something and nothing but it will as you know give a border down each side just like text in a book.
Otherwise well done.

Norm. That's excellent.
To date I have only written part of the story as I am looking for some missing data which is somewhere on the computer. The maps might be better if joined up so I will send a revised version.
The consensus in Furness is that the white mound on the canal bank in Shallcross's photo is lime. There are believed to have been kilns nearby. On the map, just below the mine adit can be seen field 31 on Diglee Road. This is where Richard Knowles built his house, Heatherby. Adjacent was the field where the pit ponies were grazed and stabled, a path led down to the mine.

Hi David
I have changed the map to one large map, that does look better. I will add other material as I receive it.
Cheers

In Post 1: Norm requests feed back.
Two polite suggestions on border widths have been deleted presumably by moderator Jon.
Are we to understand that only praise is acceptable?

Umtali,
Please post constructive posts in the correct threads and in the correct part of the forum. Promotion of external websites which may contain negative material will not be allowed.

Umtali
Two points.
1. There is some merit in spacing the words from the edge. I have changed the cellspacing to achieve this, solves a bit of vertical spacing as well. Thank you for the idea.
2. As soon as you learn that all the people on this forum are wrong and you are right may not be true I think people will respect you.
Cheers

See even a helpful website hint or tip brings out aggression.
Books thankfully are not printed with text right up to the edge of the page, but perhaps it will catch on one day.

I was impressed by the photo gallery and particularly the 1902 photo of the Horwich End fountain. The missing bank building dates from 1919 after being housed across the road for a few months. I have some details of this from the RBS archives if anyone is interested. As a new contributer, I was unsure as to where I should post this.

Hi Joyce,
I'd just create a new thread in the local history section and start there.
Cheers and welcome to the forum !

Hello Joyce,
Well I for one am very interested. As our only Councillor, JonG, says please start a new thread on the history side.
I did a lot of research into the twin fountains some time ago and if you have any information at all it will be very welcome.
I am very much looking forward to it.

Well**, rather than be off topic on another thread, you can add here which posts/threads/stories you think should be put on the website. That's what this thread is for after all. Edited by user 25 October 2010 08:14:36(UTC)
